01 Information Collection and Use
StudyBreak app gathers information regarding the user's settings and usage statistics as displayed on the Stats page. This information is stored on the device and, if the user has iCloud enabled on their device, is synced to the user's private iCloud account as described in "iCloud (CloudKit) Sync" below. Aside from that optional iCloud sync, this information never leaves the device.
The usage statistics can be deleted by the user by pressing the trashcan icon displayed on the stats for individual days. The stored data regarding the user's settings is used for the core functionality of the app so that the user doesn't have to input new settings every time the app is opened. This data cannot be deleted within the app; however, the user can erase the data from their device by uninstalling the application. If the user decides to download and use the app again, then new data regarding the user's settings will be created and stored.
02 iCloud (CloudKit) Sync
StudyBreak uses Apple's CloudKit service to keep your data available across your own devices and to power an optional social feature.
Private data sync. If you are signed into iCloud, StudyBreak automatically syncs your settings and usage statistics (sessions, study/break periods, days, and categories) to your private CloudKit database via Apple's NSPersistentCloudKitContainer. This private database is part of your own iCloud account — it is encrypted and accessible only to you across your signed-in devices. The developer cannot access this data. You can stop this sync at any time by turning off iCloud Drive access for StudyBreak, or for the device generally, in your device's Settings app.
Optional public profile. StudyBreak also includes an optional social feature that lets a user create a public profile identified by a username. If you choose to create one, information you provide — such as your username, institution, programme, and study buddies list — is stored in a public CloudKit database so that it can be looked up by other users of the feature (for example, so a study buddy can find you by username). You can block other users from viewing your public profile information within the app. If you would like a public profile you created deleted, contact the developer using the details below.
03 App Blocking (Screen Time)
StudyBreak offers an optional feature that blocks distracting apps and websites on your device while you are studying. This feature uses Apple's Screen Time technology (the FamilyControls and ManagedSettings frameworks) and requires your explicit permission, granted through Apple's system authorization prompt, before it can be used.
The apps and categories you choose to block are selected using Apple's native picker and are represented to StudyBreak only as opaque, privacy-preserving tokens supplied by Apple — the developer and the Application never see which specific apps you have selected, and this information is never transmitted off your device. Your selection is stored locally within a secure App Group container shared between StudyBreak and its Shield Configuration extension, solely so the extension can display StudyBreak's blocking screen when a blocked app or website is opened during a study session. This data is not sent to the developer or to any third party.
You can change or clear your selection at any time from within the app, and you can revoke StudyBreak's Screen Time permission at any time in your device's Settings app.
04 AI-Powered Features
StudyBreak incorporates AI technology to enhance the user experience with features such as study plan generation and deep dive podcast creation.
Data usage for AI features. The app uses user-provided inputs such as study goals, subject areas, study syllabus, imported PDF files, and time availability to generate personalized study plans and podcasts.
On supported devices and operating system versions, these inputs are processed using Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which extends the same privacy protections as on-device processing to the cloud and prevents Apple (and the developer) from accessing your data during processing. On devices or operating system versions where Private Cloud Compute is not available, these inputs are instead processed by a third-party AI provider.
In either case, the data collected for these AI-powered features is used solely for the purpose of generating the requested study plans or podcasts and is not stored beyond the processing session.
